The **AISLER MCP** lets your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others) work directly with your AISLER account. Instead of clicking through the website, you ask in plain language: _“find me a 10 µF 0603 capacitor that’s in stock”_ or _“what will 50 assembled boards of my project cost?”_

MCP stands for [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside services. You don’t need to know how it works to use it.

With the AISLER MCP your assistant can:

- Search millions of electronic parts, with live stock and prices from many distributors
- Compare offers for a part: price breaks, packaging and stock per distributor
- Look at your projects: board size, layers, components, BOM state and board notes
- Assign or exclude parts in your bill of materials (BOM), or let Smart Match pick them
- Calculate BOM prices and availability for any quantity
- Upload a new design or a new revision of an existing one
- **In agent mode:** fix issues from AISLER’s board notes directly in your design files ([see below](https://claude.ai/chat/6445ebff-97ec-46e9-bb7c-a7f8040281ec?artifact=5c1fde64-bf6e-4c7e-b0be-950bad6dc97c#let-your-agent-fix-the-design-agent-mode))

The assistant always acts as you. It sees only what your AISLER account can see, and you approve the connection once when you sign in.

## Getting started

You only need one thing: the server address.

```plaintext
https://aisler.net/mcp
```

### Claude (claude.ai, Desktop and mobile)

1. Open **Settings → Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
2. Name it “AISLER” and paste `https://aisler.net/mcp` as the URL.
3. Click **Connect**. An AISLER login window opens; sign in and allow access.
4. In a new chat, ask _“Show me my AISLER projects”_ to check it works.

### Other assistants and coding agents

Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth works (for example ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code). Add `https://aisler.net/mcp` as a remote (HTTP) MCP server; the client opens the AISLER login on first use. In Claude Code, for example:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http aisler https://aisler.net/mcp
```

### Link a local project folder (optional)

If you work with a coding agent inside your KiCad or other CAD project folder, you can tell it which AISLER project belongs to that folder. Put the project ID (the short code in the project URL, e.g. `VWNSUMWN`) into a file called `.aisler-project` in the folder root:

```bash
echo VWNSUMWN > .aisler-project
```

Then add this line to the folder’s `AGENTS.md` (or `CLAUDE.md`) so the agent reads AISLER’s built-in instructions first:

```md
Always use the aisler-mcp server to interact with the AISLER web-platform. All further information can be found at the instructions provided by the MCP server, read these instructions first.
```

The project ID is not a password. Never put login data or tokens into this file.

## The tools at a glance

You never call these tools yourself; your assistant picks them based on what you ask. Knowing them helps you phrase requests.

| Tool | What it does | Ask something like |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `search_part_catalog` | Searches millions of parts by part number | “Is the AP2112K-3.3 in stock?” |
| `get_part_offers` | Shows every distributor offer for one part: stock, price breaks, packaging | “Who has the best price for 500 pcs?” |
| `get_organization_and_repository_list` | Lists your organizations, repositories and projects | “Which AISLER projects do I have?” |
| `get_project_details` | Reads one project: board, BOM, board notes, running jobs | “Summarize project VWNSUMWN” |
| `update_part_assignment` | Assigns a catalog part to BOM positions, excludes them, or sets Smart Match parameters | “Use this capacitor for C1–C4” |
| `update_bill_of_material_status` | Recalculates BOM price and availability for a quantity | “Can I build 100 boards right now?” |
| `import_data_to_project` | Uploads a CAD file as a new project or a new revision | “Upload my KiCad board as a new revision” |

## Searching the part catalog

The catalog search works best with a **manufacturer part number (MPN)**, full or partial. It matches mainly on part numbers, so a value-only search like `10uF 25V 0603` returns parts whose _number_ contains that text, not parts with those specs. The good news: your assistant knows thousands of common MPNs, so you can still ask in plain words and let it translate.

Each result shows the part ID, MPN, manufacturer, an availability flag, whether it is an exact match, a unit price, a description and a datasheet link. Up to 10 results come back per search.

| Availability | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| available | In stock at one or more distributors |
| risky | Low or uncertain stock; check offers before relying on it |
| unavailable | No current stock found |

### Example 1: You know the exact part

> **You:** Is the Murata GRM188R61E106KA73D in stock?

The assistant searches `GRM188R61E106KA73D`. The top hit is flagged as an exact match (10 µF, 25 V, X5R, 0603, available). The other results are close relatives, such as the same capacitor in other packaging variants (…73J, …73V) or with ±20 % tolerance (…MA73D). That makes this search a quick way to find a drop-in alternative when your first choice is out of stock.

### Example 2: You know the part family

> **You:** I want an AP2112 regulator, 3.3 V, SOT-23-5. Which one, and is it available?

The assistant searches the partial number `AP2112K-3.3`. The exact match is AP2112K-3.3TRG1 (600 mA, SOT-25 = SOT-23-5, available), and the rest of the family appears too: other voltages (1.2 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V) and other packages (8-SOIC, SOT-89-5). A partial MPN is the most reliable way to browse a series.

### Example 3: You only know what you need

> **You:** Find me a 3.3 V LDO, at least 500 mA, SOT-23-5, that’s in stock.

Searching the sentence directly does not work well: `LDO 3.3V SOT-23-5` returns JFETs and TVS diodes whose numbers contain “SOT-23”. A good assistant instead proposes candidate MPNs it knows (for example AP2112K-3.3, MIC5219-3.3, XC6220B331MR) and searches each one, then reports which are available. If your assistant tries the sentence and gets odd results, simply say: _“Suggest a few suitable part numbers and search those instead.”_

### Example 4: Passive components by value

> **You:** I need 100 nF, 50 V, X7R in 0402 for C1–C12.

A value search (`100nF 0402`) tends to return unrelated parts. You have two better options:

- **Smart Match** (easiest for generic passives in a project): let AISLER pick the part from the parameters `100nF 50V X7R 0402`. See [Smart Match](https://claude.ai/chat/6445ebff-97ec-46e9-bb7c-a7f8040281ec?artifact=5c1fde64-bf6e-4c7e-b0be-950bad6dc97c#smart-match) below.
- **Specific MPNs:** ask the assistant to search typical part numbers for that spec from big manufacturers (Murata GRM, Samsung CL, Yageo CC, TDK C series).

### Search tips

- Use the MPN or its stem. Drop packaging suffixes (`TR`, `-ND`, `/T&R`) if a full number finds nothing.
- Check the **exact match** column first; nearby results are similar parts, not equivalents.
- “Similar description” is not “compatible”. Compare footprint, voltage, tolerance and pinout with the datasheet before assigning.
- Prices in the list are a quick indication. For quantity pricing use `get_part_offers` (next section).

## Checking prices and stock

Once a search has found a part, `get_part_offers` shows every offer AISLER knows for it: distributor, order number (SKU), packaging, currency, price breaks, stock, lead time, minimum order quantity (MOQ) and order multiple, plus when the data was last updated. The assistant uses the part ID from the search, so you just refer to the part.

### Example 5: Cheapest source for a quantity

> **You:** Where do I get 250 AP2112K-3.3TRG1 cheapest, and is there enough stock?

On 23 October 2026 the tool returned 16 offers for this part. A good answer filters out offers that don’t fit 250 pieces and compares the rest, roughly like this:

| Distributor | Packaging | Price at 250 pcs | Stock | MOQ |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Mouser | Cut Tape | €0.105 | 231,983 | 1 |
| Farnell | Cut Tape | €0.110 | 4,874 | 5 |
| LCSC | Cut Tape | $0.124 | 16,345 | 5 |
| Digikey | Cut Tape | €0.127 | 423,564 | 1 |

Reel offers (Future Electronics, Arrow) are cheaper per piece but need 3,000 pieces, so they drop out at 250. Offers with stock 0 are skipped.

### Example 6: Quick yes/no

> **You:** Can I get 10,000 of these within two weeks?

The assistant adds up stock across offers and checks lead times. Here several distributors each hold well over 10,000, so the answer is yes, with Future Electronics’ reel price as the cheapest option at that volume.

### Tips

- Prices and stock change daily; the “updated at” field shows how fresh each offer is.
- Mind the packaging: cut tape suits prototypes, full reels suit production.
- Mixed currencies (EUR, USD) appear side by side; ask the assistant to convert if you want one currency.

## Working with projects

These tools act on your own AISLER projects. The assistant needs a project ID, the short code in the project URL (e.g. `aisler.net/p/VWNSUMWN`). If you don’t know it, just name the project; the assistant can look it up.

### Finding your projects

> **You:** Which projects do I have on AISLER?

The assistant calls `get_organization_and_repository_list` and lists your organizations, repositories and projects with titles, IDs and dates.

### Understanding a project

> **You:** Give me an overview of project VWNSUMWN. Anything I should fix before ordering?

`get_project_details` returns the board (size, layer count, CAD tool), component counts, which BOM positions are assigned, missing or excluded, the board notes, and any background jobs still running. Board notes flag layout issues AISLER found, so always ask about them before ordering. You can add a quantity (_“…for 25 boards”_) to get the BOM summary for that number.

After an upload or an assignment, AISLER keeps working in the background. If the answer mentions running jobs, ask again a minute later.

### Assigning parts in the BOM

`update_part_assignment` changes the BOM in three ways. The assistant always needs the designators (`R1`, or several like `C1,C2,C3`).

| You want to | Say something like | What the assistant sends |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Use a specific catalog part | “Use the AP2112K-3.3TRG1 for U3” | designator + part ID from a search |
| Leave a part off the assembly | “Don’t populate J5 and J6” | designator + `excluded: true` |
| Let AISLER pick by specs (Smart Match) | “Smart-match R1–R20 as 10k 1% 0402” | designator + Smart Match parameters |

Example conversation:

> **You:** C1–C4 are unassigned. Find a 10 µF 25 V 0603 X5R capacitor that’s in stock and assign it.
>
> **Assistant:** I found Murata GRM188R61E106KA73D (exact match, available). Assign it to C1, C2, C3 and C4?
>
> **You:** Yes.

A careful assistant confirms before it assigns or excludes anything. If yours doesn’t, ask it to.

### Smart Match

Smart Match lets AISLER pick a suitable part from a trusted manufacturer when any generic part with the right values will do. You give a few parameters as a short text, separated by spaces, for example `10k 0402 1%`.

**Important:** Smart Match only works for designators starting with **R** , **C** , **LED** or **D**.

| Part type | Parameters | Examples | Limits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Resistors | resistance, tolerance, power, package | `10k 0402`
`10k 0402 1%`
`10k 0402 1% 0.1W` | E24/E48/E96 values, up to 1 W, tolerance 1–20 % |
| Capacitors | capacitance, dielectric, voltage, package | `22uF 50V 1206`
`22uF 50V X5R 1206` | E24 values, up to 50 V |
| Signal LEDs | `led`, color, package | `led red 0603` | blue, red, yellow, green or amber (English, German or French) |

Fewer parameters means a better chance of a match. If you leave out the dielectric, other capacitor types that fit voltage, capacitance and footprint are considered too. Special-purpose parts (current-sense resistors, tantalum capacitors, LEDs with defined optical properties) won’t match; use a specific MPN for those.

Example conversation:

> **You:** R1–R20 are all 10k pull-ups in 0402. Smart-match them.
>
> **Assistant:** I’ll set Smart Match parameters `10k 0402` for R1–R20. OK?
>
> **You:** Yes, and make them 1 %.

### Price and availability of the whole BOM

> **You:** What does the BOM for 50 boards cost, and is everything available?

`update_bill_of_material_status` recalculates prices and availability for the quantity you give (default: 1). It can take a few minutes on large BOMs. Run it again after every change in assignments or quantity.

### Uploading a design

> **You:** Upload `./hardware/board.kicad_pcb` as a new revision of VWNSUMWN.

`import_data_to_project` gives the assistant a one-time upload address. It can add a revision to an existing project or create a new one (optionally with a title, in a chosen organization and repository). Uploading the file itself needs an assistant that can read files and send web requests, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop with file access. In a plain chat window you’ll be given the link and steps instead. When processing finishes, the assistant shares the project link and can read the result with `get_project_details`.

[details=“Technical detail: how the upload works”] The tool returns an `import_url`. The file is sent with an HTTP `POST` as multipart form data, field name `upload[file]`:

```bash
curl -X POST "$IMPORT_URL" -F "upload[file]=@board.kicad_pcb"
```

The response contains a `callback` URL to poll for processing status and a `redirect` URL to the project page. [/details]

## Let your agent fix the design (agent mode)

When your assistant runs as an agent inside your local project folder, it can fix the design itself. It reads AISLER’s board notes with `get_project_details`, edits your design files to address them, uploads a new revision and checks the notes again. Board notes become a to-do list the agent works through with you, instead of something you fix by hand. Agent-capable tools include Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Claude Desktop with file access.

1. Link the folder to the project with a `.aisler-project` file (see _Getting started_).
2. Ask the agent to review the board notes.
3. The agent explains each note and proposes a concrete change to the design file.
4. You approve, and it edits the file.
5. It uploads a new revision with `import_data_to_project`.
6. It reads the board notes again to confirm the issues are gone.

> **Note:** This works best with text-based design files such as KiCad (`.kicad_pcb`), which an agent can read and change directly. Binary formats such as Altium’s `.PcbDoc` are much harder to edit this way; there the agent explains the notes and tells you exactly what to change in your CAD tool.

### Example: PCB with notes

For a typical 2-layer board, `get_project_details` can return board notes like these:

| Note | Priority | Where | What it means and how to fix it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Uneven copper distribution | warning | top and bottom layer | Some areas carry much less copper than others, which can cause problems in manufacturing. Fill the empty areas with copper. [Help article](https://community.aisler.net/t/copper-distribution/2727) |
| Assembly panel bridges | relevant | 6 positions along the board edge (x/y in mm) | Small bridges hold the board in the assembly panel. Check nothing sits too close to the edge there; if it does, define your own bridges. [Help article](https://community.aisler.net/t/bridges-and-frames/49) |

A prompt for the agent:

> Read the board notes for this project. For the uneven copper distribution, add copper fills to the free areas of the top and bottom layers, connected to GND, and keep the existing clearance rules. For each assembly bridge position, check whether a part, pad or trace is close to the board edge and tell me. Show me the changes before saving, then upload a new revision and check the board notes again.

The agent adds the copper fills in the design file, reports which bridge positions (if any) conflict with parts near the edge, and after your OK uploads the new revision. A minute later it reads the project again; the copper warnings should be gone, and the bridge notes remain as information to confirm.

### Good practice

- Let the agent work on a git branch or a copy of the file, so you can compare and undo.
- Open the result in your CAD tool and run the design rule check (DRC) before uploading.
- Not every note is an error. Some, like bridge positions, are information to check; the agent should report them rather than change the design unless something conflicts.

## Example workflows

Prompts you can paste as they are and adapt. Each one lets the assistant chain several tools on its own.

### From design to quote

> Upload `board.kicad_pcb` as a new AISLER project called “Sensor Node v2”. When it’s processed, tell me which BOM positions are unassigned, suggest in-stock parts for them (use Smart Match for generic resistors and capacitors), and after I confirm, give me the BOM price for 25 boards.

Tools used: `import_data_to_project` → `get_project_details` → `search_part_catalog` → `update_part_assignment` → `update_bill_of_material_status`

### Fix an out-of-stock part

> In project VWNSUMWN, which parts are unavailable for 100 boards? For each, find a drop-in alternative with the same package and specs, show me price and stock, and wait for my OK before changing anything.

Tools used: `update_bill_of_material_status` → `get_project_details` → `search_part_catalog` → `get_part_offers` → `update_part_assignment`

### Pre-order check

> Review project VWNSUMWN before I order: summarize the board notes, list excluded and unassigned parts, and confirm all parts are available for 10 boards.

Tools used: `get_project_details` → `update_bill_of_material_status`

### Quick part research (no project needed)

> Compare the AP2112K-3.3TRG1 with two alternative 3.3 V LDOs in SOT-23-5. Show stock and price at 1,000 pieces in a table.

Tools used: `search_part_catalog` → `get_part_offers`

## Tips, troubleshooting and FAQ

### Good habits

- Ask the assistant to confirm before it assigns, excludes or uploads anything.
- Check footprint, package and key specs against the datasheet before accepting a suggested part.
- Recalculate the BOM price after every change.
- Read the board notes before ordering.

### Troubleshooting

| Problem | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Search returns unrelated parts | Search by MPN or partial MPN, or ask the assistant to suggest part numbers first |
| Smart Match finds nothing | Use fewer parameters, check the value is in the E-series, or use a specific MPN |
| “Project not found” or no access | Check the project ID and that your AISLER account can open the project in the browser |
| Project data looks outdated | Background jobs may still be running; ask again after a minute |
| BOM calculation takes long | Normal for large BOMs; it can take several minutes |
| Upload doesn’t happen | Your assistant needs file access and web requests (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) |
| Login window doesn’t appear | Remove and re-add the connector, then sign in again |
| Agent uses an old tool name | Tell it to re-read the AISLER MCP instructions; the tool is now `update_part_assignment` |

### FAQ

#### Does it cost anything?

The MCP server is part of your AISLER account. Your AI assistant’s own plan and usage limits still apply.

#### Can the assistant order boards for me?

No. It prepares projects, BOMs and quotes; you place the order on [aisler.net](http://aisler.net).

#### Who can see my data?

Every action runs as your AISLER user with your permissions. Project data passes through the AI assistant you use, so its privacy terms apply as well.

#### Which CAD formats are supported?

The same as for regular AISLER uploads. Your assistant can tell you the current list from the server’s built-in instructions.
