Power Distribution Unit - Seagulls Luebeck Formula Student Team

Hello there,

we, the Seagulls Luebeck, are a German team of passionate and dedicated students who compete in Formula Student, the largest international design competition in which teams of motivated and committed students from many universities take part. With the help of our partners, we design and construct a race car each year, which is then presented and driven at the events.

This year we faced the biggest challenge in the history of our team: the switch from a combustion to an electric powertrain. We are faced with new challenges and opportunities, necessitating lots of development especially in our electronics department. Having a partner like Aisler on this journey was a great relief. Ordering PCBs and receiving them fast and predictable was essential this season and the never ending trust in Aisler significantly boosted our development capabilities.

The Power Distribution Unit (PDU) is the heart of our low voltage system. It supplies all other low voltage systems with power and protects them and the wiring harness from overcurrent events. Utilizing power monitors and high side switches it not only measures all voltages and currents accurately, but is also able to emulate the behaviour of a fuse and indicate it accordingly. In case of a software failure the PDU makes use of traditional fuses and LEDs to make sure the low voltage systems are protected. It is designed in a modular and manufacturable fashion, requiring mostly single sided SMD components further speeding up the manufacturing process.

We could not be happier having Aisler on board and looking forward to conquer new challenges with Aisler on our side!
