Hello AISLER Community,
we are the Formula Student Team CURE Mannheim e.V. and we are building a fully electric race car each year. We’d like to share our new design of the Dashboard from our car of the now ending season, CM26x “Caro”. Our goal was to enable full CAN support for all our CAN busses, as well as integrating the functionality of our last steering wheel PCB into the same board.
Our design
The Dashboard consists of a display, a Raspberry Pi and a self-developed custom PCB used as a HAT for the Raspberry Pi. While the Raspberry Pi is used as the compute unit of the Dashboard with direct HDMI connection to the display, the self-made PCB connects it to the vehicle.
It uses DC/DC converters to provide 12V for the display and 5V for the Raspberry Pi. The PCB components are supplied with 3,3V generated by the Pi. In the middle section of the PCB are 4 CAN transceivers and controller with SPI interface for the Pi. The use of all CAN busses also enables the possibility of the Dashboard to function as a telemetry unit in combination with the existing router.
Below are input protection circuits for all the buttons and encoder used on the steering wheel and the Dashboard itself. The cables from the steering wheel are routed through a quick connector directly to this PCB.
On the right side there are also the circuits for controlling the system critical warning LEDs in the driver interface, which is done only with hardware.
The PCB also connects an external GPS module via UART to the Raspberry Pi.
A special thank you to AISLER for manufacturing our PCB.
Their fast turnaround and reliable quality helped us bring this season’s Dashboard to life exactly as intended. We appreciate the support and are glad to be part of the AISLER community.
Best regards,
CURE Mannheim e. V.
