Curing Oven Controller - Democritus Racing Team

Who We Are

We are the Democritus Racing Team (DRT), a group of engineering students from the Democritus University of Thrace. We design and build high-performance electric race cars for the Formula Student series. Because we develop our critical electronic systems entirely from scratch, we also design custom equipment to help us manufacture our carbon fiber parts.

Curing Oven Controller

This custom PCB serves as the central control unit for our team’s composite curing oven. Its primary job is to collect critical data from the oven’s sensors, safely and accurately controlling the temperature zones and the vacuum bagging process for our composite materials.

At the core of the board is a powerful STM32H7 microcontroller that handles all the high-speed data processing. To understand exactly how the oven is behaving, the design includes multiple thermistor filter circuits for precise temperature measurement, as well as a pressure sensor circuit that continuously monitors vacuum levels.

To ensure reliable operation in the demanding environment of long curing cycles, the board features robust driving circuitry. Specialized relays are used to safely and steadily control the heating elements and vacuum pumps.

For communication and operation, the board features a USB interface for easy data extraction. Additionally, it is equipped with various connectors, buttons, indicator LEDs, and a buzzer for full user interaction and immediate fault notification.

Thank You, Aisler!

Finally, we would like to express our huge gratitude to Aisler. Your reliable PCB manufacturing services and continuous support make it possible for student teams like ours to bring complex custom designs to life.
