Formula Student - Blue Flash - Dashboard

The formula student project at the HAWK Göttingen celebrates it’s anniversary in 2025 - ten years of electric race car construction by Blue Flash Mobility Concepts. We’re a small team based right in the middle of germany, drawing students from both the UAS HAWK and the Georg-August-University.

During our last concept phase, we decided to redesign our dashboard, a PCB with indicator lights for the driver cockpit. The old RGB indicator lights were replaced by smart LEDs from Würth Electronics which can be freely used to visualize the prediction of the accumulators state-of-charge, current power level and temperature warnings. These new bus-controlled LEDs allow us to get rid of the old mosfet-based controls, resulting in a sleeker layout. Four high-power diodes are used for critical status signals, with improved visibility of these critical warnings by placing them right at the top of the board. As final addition, several push buttons can be attached via MPC4-Plug to receive driver inputs.
The dashboard functions with a two-stage power supply, converting the E_HAWKs 24V on-board power to both a 5V rail and 3.3V for microcontroller logic. It also includes a CAN transceiver for communication with the remainder of our racing car.

In this photo you can see our freshly assembled dashboards, with one of the PCBs already built into a test setup with cover plate and buttons. Thanks to our never sleeping software department, the LEDs are running through fancy RGB animations.

A very important addition on the backside are our team mascot Rüdiger the Walokopter and support animals Buddy and Kalle. Aislers silk screen print always makes them look fabulous.

We want to thank Aisler for being a strong supporter of our electronics department by providing us with PCBs for both high and low voltage systems during the last seasons.
