RF designs with aisler.net: FR4 parameters needed

Dear aisler team,

I am designing mostly pcbs from 30 to 915MHz.
For integration of pcb inductivities and capacitiesI would like to know the characteristic material values of your FR4 materials (2 Layer, 1.6mm thickness, 35um Cu) as epsilon r and tangens phi (Verlustfaktor).

If anyone in this community has experiences in how to add capacitors and inductivities (geometry) as copper element to a pcb, I would like to open and care about such an interresting topic for coleagues with similar demands.

Hi Thomas,

at least your first question is something I can answer. Check the attached datasheet for the 2 layer base material we’re using. Does this help?

Cheers,
Patrick

Dear Patrick,

great. The points 6 and 7 are the electrical characteristics, I am looking for. Normally the “Dielektrizitätszahl” of FR4 is around 4.8, but 5.4 is fine too.
Its important to figure out the capacity between upper and lower Cu Layer when designing integrated (pcb) capacitors.
I will order soon an “experimental” pcb, with same basic schematic but with ~10 geometric variations of integrated capacitors and inductivities.
So we will see, how constant is the “Dielektrizitätszahl” of your FR4 basic material.
Thank you for you very quick reply!

I am reading it as 4.7. The max value is 5.4 but the measured one 4.7.
