Team Polar- who we are and our electronics

Hello everyone, we are Team Polar. We are a student team at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Our goal is to improve Antarctic logistics by finding an alternative to kerosene powered trucks and airplanes that pollute the polar environment. We are developing an innovative technology that will pave the way to a sustainable future in Antarctic mobility.

Our Project

This lead us to our project: The GENTOO. GENTOO is an autonomous, solar powered rover that is being designed for research in Antarctica. It combines many different technologies, the electrical systems being one of them.

Our Electronics

Some of the main electronics we have for GENTOO are:

1- Handling electrical power distribution

  • Embedded software for data traffic and low level logic

  • Censor PCB for environmental monitoring

  • Remote control of GENTOO

We designed these electronics by making requirements setting, circuit schematic design, layout design and design rules check. We iterated when needed and fixed the errors we encountered.

For EDA tools we used Altium and KiCad. We used PCB for health, temperature and current sensors of GENTOO. The PCB configurations are especially important for temperature which directly relates to the motors and electronic circuit box- thermo mapping, humidity and water sensors.

We want to thank Aisler for providing us with PCBs that make connecting the electronic components of GENTOO possible.
